Piper 5 Years in SL – Part 1

Posted in Hair,High Fashion,Skins by Piper Hanriot on January 28, 2013

On 28th January 2013 I am celebrating 5 years in SL.  In the early years, I used to celebrate by having a party and inviting friends, which was fun.  These days I tend to celebrate quietly and this milestone was almost overlooked.  So to celebrate this year, I am writing 5 consecutive blogs, sharing some of my SL highlights over the past 5 years.

We start in 2008. I don’t have any newbie photos to show you from my first few weeks, however, I was amazed that I still have some of my very first hair, skin and clothing.  I was fortunate after spending my first 2 weeks exploring SL and finding a few clubs to dance, I met a mentor, a very nice lady called Latavia.  She gave me a free skin, eyes and then showed me where I could get a free hair style.

Some of the first clothing stores I found and shopped at in SL were Nyte N’ Day and UK Couture.  A lot of the romantic formal ballrooms, like Frank’s Place and Phat Cat’s had a free gown you could get, so that you looked the part before waltzing onto the dancefloor.  I remember being so happy when I got this free pink and green gown (below) called Happiness.  I thought it was the Bee’s knees!

Towards the end of my first year, I had found Redgrave skins and also Damselfly hair.  In November 2008, a friend of mine also introduced me to Sascha’s Designs.  We attended a fashion show and I was in awe of the beautiful gowns the models were wearing.  Shortly after that, Sascha advertised for a fashion show coordinator, so I applied and the rest is history 🙂

As well as taking my first tentative steps in the world of SL fashion and exploring SL, I made some great friends, one of whom introduced me to the hud based game Tiny Empires and through this game I made even more friends.  We had a blast back then and even though life is more tame, we still keep in touch.  It is a testament to be able to say that you’re friends with people in SL for that long.

I hope you’ve enjoyed reading Part 1 and having a giggle at my early looks, I know I have.  See you soon for Part 2.
